The Scroll With

Seven Seals

1. Then I saw a scroll in the right hand of the One seated on the throne. It had writing on both sides and was sealed with seven seals.

A scroll in Scripture represents God's mystery of creation that was brought forth by his Word, and its truth is eventually opened and revealed to God's people, but it is rolled up and hidden from others.  A similar idea would be when Jesus told parables, and to the spiritually discerning, the meaning was revealed, but to all others, the meaning was hidden.  Jesus said, “The knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, ‘Though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.’" Luke 8:10

I believe the scroll in the book of Revelations represents God's creation, as created by the Word of God, for we're told that everything that was ever made by God was made by his Word.  (Jesus is The Word.) The scroll has writing on both sides to indicate the contents have to do with both heaven (the outside) and earth (the inside.)  Since all of creation was made by God's Word, then the imagery shows words rolled up and hidden, but it is the mystery of God's creation.  Paul said, "I became its servant by the commission God gave me to fully proclaim to you the word of God, the mystery that was hidden for ages and generations but is now revealed to His saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." Colossians 1:25-27

As a point of interest: If you look at the image above, you'll see an actual time-lapse photo of the stars as we know them.

It appears that we, who are within the confines of the material creation, are inside of a scroll.   Perhaps when the book of Enoch talks about him seeing the "path of the angels", it's talking about the tunnel in the above image, since angels and heaven are not subject to the limits of time and space, and so, this may be what they see all the time, though we must have it sped way up to see it.  And too, people who have died and came back to earth nearly always say they went through a tunnel; so is this the tunnel they went through?  And Enoch, who spiritually went to heaven, went into two crystal structures, and he said, "The ceiling was as the path of the stars."  Well, the above image is the actual path of the stars, as best as we, as humans, can witness it.

So the scroll in Revelations most likely represents God's mysterious creation, as created by his Word, and no one is able to fully discern it because God has kept these mysteries rolled up and sealed shut.  King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 8:17, "I saw every work of God, and that a man is unable to comprehend the work that is done under the sun. Despite his efforts to search it out, he cannot find its meaning; even if the wise man claims to know, he is unable to comprehend."  And the angel told Daniel in 8:26, "Go on your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end."

Isaiah 34:4 prophesied, "All the stars of heaven will be dissolved. The skies will be rolled up like a scroll, and all their stars will fall like withered leaves on the vine, and foliage on the fig tree."

I know there are people who say the earth is round, and others believe God's word when it speaks of the earth being flat and having four corners, but I only know this much:  how we view things, and how God views them spiritually, are two different things.  Even with the image of the stars above, we see stars normally as little dots in the sky, but speed their trek up with a strong camera, and then we see a tunnel of light.  Suddenly, the "tunnel" story starts making sense.  So are stars planets, as NASA says, because according to God, they're lights, and they're going to dissolve and appear to fall, and I imagine it looking like snow flakes that dissolve as they descend into warm air:  they just dissolve and disappear, as though they had never been.

When God rolls the scroll open, and the mystery of Jesus and creation are revealed, we're told, "Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to heaven. And he swore by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and everything in it, the earth and everything in it, and the sea and everything in it: 'There will be no more delay!' But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be fulfilled, just as He proclaimed to His servants, the prophets.” Rev. 10:5-7

So, I believe the scroll that only Jesus is worthy to unseal and roll out, so as to reveal the hidden meaning, is the entire creation of God, both heaven and earth, and the Great Mystery it has held since the beginning of God's work, which we're told by Paul is the mystery of "Jesus in us".  For all of creation came into existence by God's Word, and by rolling it up, as if in a scroll, he has kept it a mystery all this time, just as his Word testifies throughout.  Only when Jesus takes up his reign will the Great Mystery of creation finally be revealed.  The scroll that only Jesus can open symbolizes the mystery of heaven and earth from their founding, and the words on the scroll are "the Word" that created it all, which is Jesus himself.  For we're told in John 1:3, "Through him all things were made, and without him, nothing was made that has been made."

So how fitting that all of creation should be symbolized as words on a rolled up scroll; since the Word created all things, and the Word has been a mystery rolled up and sealed from the beginning.

And what are the seven seals?  These are things that God has ordained must be accomplished before the final revelation of the Mystery of Jesus can be revealed to all of heaven and earth.
